| This was my first project after my retirement. I went a tiny bit overboard, but I wanted a
computer that would do it ALL. I carefully selected parts from every source available. These included, but were not
limited to, eBay.com, BestBuy, Internet vendors and Auctions. At this time I learned the hard lesson of shared
and ganged interrupts - there are never enough. I purchased and installed a SCSI controller to free up
some resources and fill up my available slots. Remember, this was 1999 - computers and parts were not as cheap and
common-place as they are now. The origional configuration included a black monitor. If you can remember, black
computers were not popular and parts were rare. The origional unit and accessories cost approx $3225.
The hardware was installed in sections, ..ie, base i/o, video, sound, TV and TV out, dvd, printers. The OS was
Windows98. It was agony, driver compatibilites and conflicts and lock-ups gave me ulcers. Who could possibly
be afraid of Linux after that! An upgrade to Windows98SE gave me some stability. It is protected by ZoneLabs Pro
firewall and Norton Anti-Virus. This is used primarily as a Cable Modem anchor, I have to read the Network
information to the clerks at tech-support to report the cable down. Due to e-mail attacks it does no email at all.
It also provides me with hours of entertainment playing PC video games. I love MechWarrior and Urban Assault. The
MS Sidewinder Force Feed Pro and Surround Sound really "wow" me. This caused an upgrade to a 750MHZ CPU, and good
quality LCD monitor.
This hefty "old boy" has 3D Graphics, 3D Sound, a DVD-ROM, 3 CD-ROMS, a CDRW, HP OfficeJet 1175cxi all-in-one,
56Kbs Fax Modem, TV tuner and output and FM radio. It also has DDS Tape back-up and PCMCIA. It maybe slow by
present standards, but you could say it does it All.
